About Coldplay

Coldplay is a band. A Group of white guys if you will. The group consists of 4 members: Chris Martin, Guy Berryman (I know, I know), Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion. I started listening to them around middle school, and when I tell you I was obsessed. I really was. Earliest Memory? Finding that damn music video. The Music Video for Paradise. I believe it was the first single off their then upcoming album: Mylo Xyloto. I don't entirely remember if I gave the whole album a listen after finding that song. I do remember watching that video...far more times then I really needed too. I think it had to do with the pure happiness and joy I got from the video premise. Finding your tribe? Found family? Fitting in? Honestly, all that could fit it. At the moment, I think I just dug seeing a few elephants rock out on various instruments.

After being introduced to them with that song, I only grew more and more fond of them and their music, even giving a few *cough* *cough* Minecraft parodies a listen too. I jumped from album to album, song to song, live performanc to live performance, so on and so forth. I noticed as time went on, I would listen to them whenever I was in a particular funk. I could never just listen to one song and be done either. I had to just go and binge all my favorite songs/music videos in one fell swoop. Many of the music videos were just so infectious with the tones they wanted to showcase. Talk had such an insane premence for it's music video, and it just worked somehow? Like? The whole band getting lost on an unknown planet and finding a whole ass robot body only for it to reanimate and chase them? While they go into a jam break for the chorus?? All this, only for a song like Fix You to have such a somber ass, beautiful ass music video with that classic coldplay slowmo? (They seem to use slow motion alot in certain music videos, lil something I noticed) like? Both from the same damn album? huh?

Of course, I started truly getting into the band around a real critical time in their history. Right after Mylo Xyloto, they dropped a pretty polarizing single with an even more polarizing music video for their next album. The song was called Midnight, aaand just watching the first full minute...it's pretty different from the usual coldplay formula.

I think ever since the release of Ghost Stories, I found myself never heavily listening to anything past Mylo Xyloto. I feel like Coldplay has found wild success from the very first album, which is crazy to think of at a time like the 2000s. Just goes to show how much raw talent was coming from them. As time went on, and each album really only made them bigger and bigger, the sound slowly started to become more..."radio friendly" I guess? No no, that's not right. Hell, I know Yellow probably took over the airwaves once it gained traction back then. I'm not sure really. The bigger they grew, the more I wanted to just listen to the classics I guess. It's no debate that their music from then is different from the now...I mean, that's what most people in music want. Progression. Growth. Coldplay has definitely achieved that and then some and then some MORE. Yet...I don't find myself scurring to listen to their latest releases.
